Post-Formal Ceilidh
Whether you’re coming to the Burns Night Formal or not, all are invited to a ceilidh in the Dining Hall after dinner! A ceilidh is a traditional Scottish dance with a live band. Expect lots of spinning and turning!
There will be a bottle bar in the Dining Hall during the dance - it promises to be a lovely night!
UnResearch Roulette
Tired of talking about your degree? Come and talk to about ANYTHING BUT. Join us for UnResearch Roulette from 6pm in the MCR Cottage and BYOB. This will be followed by a Bailey Bar Crawl!
The evening will comprise of a series of mixed format prepared and off the cuff presentations about random topics.
If you would like to give a prepared presentation (~5min) please fill out the form which will be circulated via email. If you want to give a spontaneous presentation (~3min) about a category from the roulette wheel just show up!
Valentine's Paint & Sip
Join us for a relaxed and creative Paint & Sip evening as we get ready for Valentine’s Day! Whether you’re making a card for a partner, friend, or family member this event is all about unwinding, being creative, and spending time with good company.
We’ll provide all the materials you need to design and paint your own Valentine’s card, with drinks available to sip while you create. No artistic experience is needed at all - this is a low-pressure, social space where the focus is on relaxing and having fun rather than being “good” at art. This event is free for MCR Ordinary members, or £3 for non-levy payers and guests. All are welcome. Spaces limited.
Josephine Butler Inter-MCR Lunar New Year Formal

MCReaders - Lord of the Flies by William Goulding
Join our postgraduate book club for a thoughtful and engaging discussion of Lord of the Flies, William Golding’s classic novel exploring power, morality, and the fragile structures of society.
This session is open to postgraduates from all subject areas! Whether you’re reading the novel for the first time or revisiting it with fresh eyes, the book club is a relaxed, welcoming space to share perspectives, challenge interpretations, and connect with fellow postgraduates who enjoy reading and discussion.
To keep the conversation going beyond the session, we also invite you to join our GoodReads group, where members discuss current and past reads, share book recommendations, and vote on future book club selections. Our General Meetings give you the opportunity to submit motions, propose changes and contribute towards the agenda of the coming term. For this term we have also introduced a more informal feedback form if you would have something to say but don't necessarily want to suggest any amendments to our Standing Orders or how the MCR operates.
Christmas Movie Night
Come in your comfiest pyjamas and enjoy a festive movie night! Serving hot chocolate, mulled wine, sweets and treats, and brie and cranberry toasties. Open to all!
College Christmas Gathering
Hatfield may currently seem a little quieter but the Christmas cheer continues in college. All Hatfielders still here are very welcome to a Christmas gathering in the Birley Room 2pm-4pm on Wednesday 17th. There will be plenty of hot chocolate, mince pies, Christmas crafts and conversation to enjoy. All are welcome!
Research Roulette
You are invited to book to attend our termly research symposium. For £5, this event provides a friendly and supportive space for postgraduates to present their research, share ideas, and discuss work across all disciplines. There will be wine, pizza & non-alcoholic refreshments (hence the surcharge).

Board Game Night
Join us for a Board Game Night on November 20th at 6:30pm at James Barber House! ♟️🎲🎮 Perfect to relax amidst formative season and have some fun. The Wii will be available and hooked to the TV, and we will provide board games (but you are more than welcome to bring your own as well!!) 🥳
Pizza and soft drinks will be provided. This will be a free event.
