About Hatfield College

In the words of our Master, Ann Maclarnon:

Established in 1846, as the second college of Durham University, with the explicit purpose of being open to a wide range of students, we greatly value the rich diversity of our college members, who come from all sorts of backgrounds and places of origin, with all sorts of interests, experiences and views.

The college community is a friendly and welcoming environment. And we are very proud of our college traditions (quirky and serious)! The inclusive ethos of our community is reflected in the #AllOneHatfield pledge that we strive to uphold.

Our motto ‘Vel Primus Vel Cum Primus’ drives us forward our time at Durham and beyond: To be the best we can be!
